Distribution

 Jatropha curcas is a tropical shrub native to Mexico and Central America, but is widely distributed in wild or semi cultivated stands in Latin America, Africa, India and SouthEast Asia. In India, Portuguese Navigators introduced it in the 16th century. It occurs in almost all parts of India including Andaman Island and generally grown as live fence. The tree is well adapted to arid conditions. It is suitable for sand dune stabilization and soil conservation areas
